Jehovah-shalom-The Lord Of Peace: Health Properity Reconciliation Harmony

Webster’s Peace: ” a tranquil state of freedom from outside disturbance and harassment “

New International Dictionary: ” a mental or spiritual condition marked by freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions; calmness of mind and heart “( this definition really captures the real meaning of peace to me.). Anyway my fragment of thoughts now is about another definition of Peace.

The Primary Old Testament word for Peace.

The word peace appears in the in various forms in the Bible over 400 times with 75 % in O.T. The primary word in the O.T. for peace is the Hebrew Shalom, which is translated over 170 times.

Hebrew word shalom means “Safe,i.e.well,friendly, also welfare as in health,prosperity, peace” See the following Bible scriptures references pertaining to meanings .

In Job 21:9: health,security, tranquility.

In Genesis 37:14; 1 Samuel 17:18; 11 Samuel 11:7; 11 Kings 10:13; Esther 2:11: asking about a person’s welfare in greeting them, if all is well as in their well-being,success,prosperity, comfort.

Peace is very important for all human including Jews and Gentiles. The Hebrew word Shalom covers body mind and spirit beginning upon meeting someone in greeting them in and with peace.

THE POWER OF PEACE .

Peace has power ! We do not necessarily think of peace as powerful, but it is. It has a powerful calming effect. There are some medicine conventional or holistic that are powerful sedatives. Peace is a powerful and effective sedative.Peace can win and stop war,diplomacy and wisdom can stop terrorism in its tracts. Leaders have their personal difficulties as they lead even in the midst of turbulence but matters cannot be take in your own hands. Peace cannot be made without Truth and Reconciliation its impossible to last.

Israel had a ” roller-coaster ” existence during the time of the judges. They pwould be up for awhile, faithfully adhering to the laws of God, then suddenly they would take a downward nose dive spiritually.Then repent for awhile then a downward trend, back and forth. They cried, sack cloth,ashes and wailing prayers for God’s help which He responded to their cries and did help them over and over again.

Peace With God.

Gideon Chosen By God For Battle.

It was during one of these times when Israel was in desperate need of deliverance from the attack of Medianites, when God raised up Gideon to deliver them. Gideon was young, he felt that he was not worthy nor capable, he wasn’t popular among the people to recruit great warriors to battle against the great Medianite army. Gideon was fearful and an angel of the Lord came to him giving an assurance that God would be with him.

Judges 6:16: And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Medianites as one man.

Judges 6: 23-24 : And the Lord said unto him (Gideon), Peace be unto thee; fear not thou shalt not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord and called it Jehovah-shalom unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of Abiezrite

When we think of Gideon,we think of a great man who overcame Medianites with their great army. Gideon faced so many challenges that seemed impossible to overcome needless to think of defeating the Medianites army. Jehovah-shalom and Gideon,peaceful man at war.
