FOCUS: Any Christian who failed and erred can find their way out of this condition and back to God. As David found God’s mercy and forgiveness, and many others have today.
1 JOHN 1: 9; If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
REPENTANCE is one of the few teachings that has remained constant throughout every age of God’s dealing with mankind. From God’s appeal to Cain, the first murderer, killed his only brother Abel, to the churches of Asia addressed in the Book of Revelation, repentance heads the lists of divine prerequisites for mankind.
Perhaps nowhere else in the Scriptures do we find REPENTANCE modeled any better than in the life of DAVID, the POPULAR KING of ISRAEL. David’s repentant attitude made him a “Man AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART,” so he provides the character case in point study most times for REPENTANCE.
INGREDIENTS OF REPENTANCE includes Admission, Confession, Remorse, Humility and Transparent Honesty of the Heart and Mind.
TRUE REPENTANCE touches the emotions, intellect, and the person’s will. Emotionally, the repentant person must experience a deep twinge of sorrow for what they have done wrong. This is a universal principle it’s not exclusive to Christianity or whether you dont believe in God,Universe or nothing at all. PSALM 38: 18 ” For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.”(errors).
CHRISTIANS need to repent daily as humans are prone to errors, faults, failures, weaknesses and or shortcomings. Repentance needs to be a regular part of our prayer and devotional time. Simple put REPENTANCE is a change that starts in the mind, turning from thoughts that are wrong before God and man, thoughts and ideas if actioned could be vile and dangerous.
DAVID,failed as the King he should have been at the battle instead he stayed at home and in his idle time “temptation called.” Scriptures says in 11 Samuel 11:1 “David tarried still at Jerusalem.” David was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Christians can fall into the same failure as David did if we become slack from doing what we are called to do.
There are 3 sobering facts about David’s fall: DAVID committed adultery that he never should have done, he had more than enough wives and concubines. DAVID never intended to commit the murder of Uriah. DAVID never eluded the penalty there was for the sin he committed. However one sin led to another.
IN EVERY DISPENSATION of God’s dealing with mankind REPENTANCE has played a significant role, for it heads the lists of divine prerequisites for Salvation. Of all the biblical admonitions regarding REPENTANCE, perhaps the best model life is of the psalmist David. His repentant attitude made him a ” MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART.”
TRUE REPENTANCE involves Admission, Confession, Remorse, Humility, and Transparent Honesty of Heart and Mind. A person can do nothing himself to Atone for sinful nature REPENTANCE is the only ALERNATIVE. Only Jesus Christ blood can Atone for man’s sin. Access to God’s Saving Grace is achieved Only through the DOOR of REPENTANCE: A CHANGE OF MIND.
Repentance is a vanishing trait today

“And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner! Luke 18:13
“My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself, and repent Job 42:4-6
We must desire true repentance. True repentance is more than admitting our wrong doings. Just thinking of doing wrong should be sickening to us. We are called by God to hate evil (Proverbs 8:13), especially the evil in ourselves.
Like David when we come to know of our sins, we must earnestly want God to change our hearts. We should ask for him to create a clean heart and a right spirit within us (Psal 51:10). All our sins originate in our thoughts, often fuel by our pride and selfishness, anger and jealousy, lust and greed which is our human nature. We should ask God to open our eyes to see ourselves as we are, so that we can pin point our sinful ways and repent remorsefully. Psalms 51 is my go to scripture!!!
